OpenAI generates the workflow documentation and images. Use one API key with access to the text and image models configured in the workflow.

Setup

1. Sign in to OpenAI Platform and check that API billing or credits are available for your project.
2. Open API keys, create a key and store it securely.
3. Add the key to an OpenAI credential in n8n, then select that credential in the workflow's OpenAI text and image nodes.

Keep the supplied model settings for the first test. If a model is unavailable to your account, choose an accessible alternative that supports the required output format.

API usage is billed separately. Store the key in n8n credentials, never in workflow fields or documentation.
