Monitor backup and synchronization jobs through their execution logs. The workflow checks whether expected logs arrived, inspects execution results and emails issues that need attention.
The backup jobs run outside n8n. Their destination can be a server, cloud service or local storage; Google Cloud Storage holds the logs used by this monitor.
A GitHub sync-jobs.json manifest defines the expected filenames and schedules. After the upload window, n8n lists the dated GCS folder and reports missing logs. It then parses available logs for lifecycle markers, return codes, errors and warnings. OpenAI analyzes the text for additional actionable issues, and Gmail delivers the alerts.
The supplied parser supports the structured rsync/rclone logs and the specific OneDrive text format described in the guides. Other log formats need an adapter.
You need a working backup process, compatible logs uploaded to a private GCS bucket, a GitHub manifest, and n8n credentials for GCS, GitHub, Gmail and OpenAI. Keep the log filenames, folder dates and monitoring schedule aligned.
A successful log records execution status; use separate restore tests to establish that backup data can be recovered.
